Day 680 - April 26 - We made it!

Well, we did it. We successfully had a fantastic day at a race track two hours away from the house. Not only that, but we successfully overcame some difficulties while doing so, and still had a great time together.

We left the house at 8 AM, which, while that's an hour after our target departure, is still three or four hours earlier than we've ever gotten out of the house before. Fortunately, we are learning how successful we usually are at getting out of the house and had built the delay into the plan, so we weren't too far behind schedule. We stopped after about an hour on the road to shift Connor's position (and pick up a dozen hot-off-the-conveyor-belt-and-still-dripping-from-the-Wonderful-Waterfall-of-Glaze Krispy Kremes, something Connor hasn't had in over two years), An hour later, with another "sort out some difficulties" stop behind us and thoroughly sick of Krispy Kremes (at least for now), we arrived at the track. Our friend Charles (that's him in the photo with us above) had added us to his racer's list, so we not only got in free but were able to drive into the paddocks and park next to his trailer, bikes and equipment.

We were able to visit with him and get some photos of (what I'm calling) the ConnorWatch Racing Team's Suzuki GSXR-1000 in it's striking yellow paint, and a couple of other friends of ours motorcycled in as well. We had a great time visiting with them all before it was time to go watch Charles race.

We found a good spot up at the top of the Grandstand where Connor could see a lot of the action, and really enjoyed the day. I should toss out a big "thank you" to Charles for making us so welcome, and for deciding he wanted to show his support for Connor on the side of his bike. Also, we greatly enjoyed seeing our friends Jeff and Chuck (and Chuck's son Josh, too) and are thankful they undertook the ride out to Sonoma to join us there.

Also, I want to let y'all know how much we appreciate your prayers of support. Because of y'all, the mechanics quickly identified the problem with the van's lift on Friday and solved it within half an hour (and at a not-too-terrible price), and so we were able to undertake this road trip. And because of your prayers, it was so successful and enjoyable. Connor not only enjoyed himself immensely, but is looking forward to doing it again with JoƩlle and Alan in a month or two. So thanks greatly for remaining faithful as you journey with us here.

God bless,

Eric

We did have a wonderful time out and away from home!! Everything just seemed to work and we were so prepared for any mishaps, but God was faithful and we had none!! Connor even just enjoyed being up early and out of the drive... you have to understand, this was the first time in almost 2 years that Connor has been out of the house that early in the morning. It was just beautiful out Sunday morning too! Connor and all of us took in all the beauty around us as we drove through the countryside to the Napa region. Our outing was very successful, we even got a bit of sun splashed all over our cheeks.....

Well this Thursday Connor once again is getting out and about... He and a couple friends are heading into San Francisco to see a huge concert. The concert starts in the evening and will run til very late, I am sure. He is so looking forward to this. He is on the guest list of one of the bands, and he is happy to be getting out again for some much needed change of scenery and time away from the folks. We will, however, all venture up to SF, but Eric and I will be dropping off the lot, and taking some time ourselves to meet with a friend for a late dinner and drinks in the area. Please pray that Connor is feeling good and comfortable for the evening.... He amazes me at how well he is doing being out and about for long periods of time. He is regularly up and in his chair for 11 hours a day. And actually prefers to be up and going... I, however, could use a full day in bed... LOL

I think a longer trip is soon in order. The goal is to be able to travel long distance one day and do overnights... Connor is so ready to explore again. Traveling brings Connor and this whole family joy. One of Joelle and Connor's favorite things to do was take road trips... Not sure if it was the adventure, destination, or just the fact that their daddy loved to let them stop and fill up on "Gas Station Goodies". Miss those days, but ya know what? We are going to do them again!!

Love you all for traveling with us on Connorwatch...

Ps. Side note - Please be praying for Joelle and Alan as they are finishing their final papers, tests, packing up, and saying their goodbyes to many friends that have become family to them over the past 4 years. That, I am sure, is the harder part of this move... saying goodbye to some friends they may never see again. Many are heading out to foreign countries and into missions.

God bless you all, for you have truly blessed us.

Love Cherie'
