Day 265 - March 6 - Yet another prayer request

I just got notified that our insurance company has refused to pay for Connor's second ventilator "because it's not medically necessary". For those who might not know, we have two ventilators - one next to the boy's bed, and one installed on his wheelchair. Apparently we're expected to dismantle the vent while he's reliant on it and move it across the room to the wheelchair and install it there each time he transfers into and out of bed. Hmmm.

Apart from what I see as the amazing shortsightedness of this position, I can only wonder what we would be supposed to do in the event that his sole ventilator failed for whatever reason. While I can understand the insurance company's concern (each of the devices costs approximately $40,000), I cannot imagine that the expectation would be that he remain in bed all the time or that we put his life at risk in such a way.

So, this is a callout for prayer support in this particular matter - that the insurance company would not only see the necessity of redundancy in this instance, but also be willing to allow the medicos to direct Connor's care instead of an accountant somewhere. They did leave one loophole, in that they let slip that they wouldn't pay for the second vent "without a prescription". Guess what's next on our agenda!

Thank you for going to your knees for us on this - in addition to the health aspects, the second vent also helps this existence be bearable for us by easing the requirements just a bit. We appreciate your help.

Eric

Hi, Williamsons! Just wanted you to know we're still here and praying for you AND missing you. I know you're probably counting down the hours until Joelle comes home. What fun that will be!

Some encouragment on the vent issue: I would think they WILL do it gladly with a prescription. The key is just getting the prescription. You're right, you do need a back-up AND it is not reasonable to have to move the machine. I know with Scott's needs, it can take time but they do end up getting what is prescribed. And, we will all pray!

Scott ended up in the hospital a couple of weeks ago with an infection in his arm...we don't know why and it never hurt but was huge and swollen. Now we're back to "normal" life...whatever that is. :) "Normal is only a setting on the dryer" like the old saying goes.

I looked for Connor on Facebook and couldn't find him. Connor, Wade and I would love to be your facebook friends...look us up!

Love again to you all,

Kristie for the Fresno Robinsons

Eric,

Have your doctor not only do a script but also a treatment authorization request or T.A.R. I needed one to get more catheters and some other scripts.

We are praying!

Also, have the T.A.R. written to the extreme, such as life threatening, hospital stay ect. It may not be needed but the insurance co. jumps higher when those words are used.

We are still praying for you (Eastside) and miss you and chere voice. wow, what a voice she has. I always said i couldnt sing when she did cause the tears were rolling. How many can call out ot Our Lord like she can in song. And the job of Jolee coming home, i bet Conner more than anyone is counting the minutes. I can only wish i was as close to my siblings as he and she is.

Always praying for you both and the prescription that you need for that special boy Conner.

and Eric...from a recovered drug addict, i do want you do know that i read the blog every morning without fail and your words of wisdom, your speaking of scriptures that make me open my Bible and read them has helped me on some days not to even want to use. It has been 8 months now and i feel better than ever but i do want to give some of that to you and your enitire family. I love you three more than you know, keep posting the words of wisdom, anger, and how hard it is to be a believer.

Much much prayer to your and yours...Bobbie Fellows Clovis/Eastside.

Eric,

How about posting the address and contact info for the insurance company so the hundreds who follow Connor Watch can write them and request they reconsider your case?

Sometimes, there's nothing like public response (or should I say, outcry?) to help big companies wake up to reality, right. And the letters would be 'nice' of course!!

Hmm. Apparently BREATHING is not medically necessary. All I can suggest is go with the flow and get your irony where you can.

My grandma used to say "as I live and breath" -- she would be over 100 yrs old now but obviously, she thought the two went together so wonder why the insurance doesn't think the same? We will pray that they see the importance of having a 2nd ventilator and that they pay for it. To say nothing of just having a "backup" not just for convenience sake!
Hope you are enjoying the time w/ Joelle home, as well! May God bless you as your work on her wedding plans while she is home.

Hi guys - hope Joelle made it home safe and sound. Can imagine what a happy moment that was to have the family all home again. I'm sure you'll get approval for the second vent. You've had so much practice at "jumping through hoops" by now, nothing will get in your way of what you need! :o) Thinking of you always.
