Day 212 - January 12 - Psalm 57
This was written when David was hiding from Saul in the cave. I'm pretty sure my troubles don't begin to compare with being hunted like a dog around the country when you are innocent of the charges against you, so I figure if David can write this thing in those conditions, the least I can do is try to live them...
Psalm 57 -
1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.
2 I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.
3 He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.
4 My soul is among lions;
I lie among the sons of men
Who are set on fire,
Whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
6 They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They have dug a pit before me;
Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah
7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, lute and harp!
I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.
10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
I like how he repeats the phrase to convince and remind himself in verse 7!
So I have a new favorite...

Eric - I also read Psalm 57 this morning. I highlighted verses 9-11, myself - thanks for pointing out verse 7! I love the worship songs which have their source in this Psalm (I can think of two - "Your Love Oh Lord" and "Be Exalted Oh God").
Isn't it interesting that David waited on God for relief from being chased around the countryside when he could have taken matters into his own hands by killing Saul (on two occasions, if I recall correctly), thereby ending the chase and giving him the throne... That's a patience and humility which seems beyond my grasp; indeed it is, apart from God.
It's funny that you made the comment about the repetition in verse 7 - I was thinking the same thing when I read it!
Praying for all of you every day. Thanks for sharing the scripture with us!

It is funny how we often say, "My problems are not as bad in comparison to that person." It is how I think of you when I feel like I cannot handle my trials. Really, mine are not nearly as bad in comparison to yours, Eric.
Yet, I cannot tell you enough how much I needed these verses today. Thank you for being sensitive to the Holy Spirit by sharing these with us. Also, thank you for your honesty too.
I am praying that God gives you and your family a good day. I am praying for Joelle too!
How is Connor spending his day today?
It's a down day - Connor isn't feeling well and has stayed in bed all day. A bit of a fever as well, although that may be caused by the fact that it's 76 degrees F today.
Sorry all y'all in the Midwest! How's that 07 degrees F comin' along? 8-D
I hope Connor is having a better day today! We prayed for him! You all, too!
