Day 164 - November 25 - Thanksgiving is coming

Thanksgiving is the day after tomorrow, and I've been giving it a lot of thought. We had the opportunity to share Thanksgiving with some very dear friends from New Zealand a couple of years ago, and it gave us a fresh look at an old holiday. There's nothing like seeing our odd American traditions through the eyes of folks who have never celebrated the holiday in their life!

That year we cited the things that we were thankful for, and for the most part it was the run-of-the-mill Thanksgiving things - health, and family, and good friends, and the like. Needless to say, this year I won't be able to fall back on the usual list of gratitudinal recipients, as it were.

I suspect I'm not the only one who feels this way. What with the state of the economy, the housing, banking, credit and employment issues, and a general sense of despair for civilization, many people around the globe are faced this season with less than rosy prospects. Folks are losing their jobs, many have lost their savings or their homes, and 30 seconds spent watching the news is enough to get all of us to call our doctors for anti-depressants.

So what then should we be thankful for this year? Well, I can't answer that question for you, but I can tell you some things that might help. ..

First - God is good. Jesus says so in Mark 10:18, but you already know this by your own experience, don't you? So since you already know that God is good, the first thing you need to do is to start believing it.

Second - God loves you. And just like you enjoy surprising your loved ones with good things to show you love them, so God delights to do good for His children. In fact, His word says that He works ALL things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Even layoffs. Even bear markets. Even broken necks. Again, you know this. Now is the time to start actually believing it.

Third - God is faithful. The Bible says He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you. So that means that whatever you're facing - whether it's no job, or dismal sales prospects, or having to put off retirement, or even a broken neck - is happening in your life because God is working to make you more the man or woman He wants you to be. One that's conformed to the image of Christ. And He is faithful to complete it. And once again, you know this. You just need to remember to believe it.

Fourth - God wants you to bring your concerns to Him. Do you understand how big that is? We're talking about the Being who created the universe; every star, every planet, every asteroid, and everything on every one of those things - and then set it all into a magnificent ballet of existence; and He did it by breathing it into existence! He didn't even have to work at it; He just exhaled! And that Being is actually interested in you, and me, and in our lives to the tiniest detail!!! And He wants you to come to Him for help, and guidance, and provision. Wow. And again, you already know this - but do you really believe it's true?

So this Thanksgiving, we're going to have some different things to thank God for. What about you?

I'm so thankful, that while we look around and see despair, in Christ we can have peace. We can know that God is still on the throne and none of the stuff that is going on in the world has come as any shock to Him. How awesome is that? Besides who knows maybe it is all a sign that we are getting closer to the rapture of the church. How exciting is that?

I'm also thankful that you have your boy to share Thanksgiving with. I hope that the Williamson family has a fabulous Thanksgiving Day!

Thank you for the reminder. We really need to trust our Awesome God more. It's by his grace that we can see and enjoy him in the first place. It would be a pity if we went through our lives ignoring the blessings he has for us and the satisfaction and peace that come from knowing him.

Eric,
You're so right. So many times during the day, I give it to God, only to find in the next minute, I've taken it all back again...

Yeah, but....
What about....
If only....

The path to peace lies opposite of what my mind wants to do. I want to find solutions and make things happen with my efforts. But from experience, I see that just makes me spin.

I'm thankful that I can lay it all down again. Thank you for the reminder that it's not about me. Thank God!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28

I am thankful there is rest.

Praying for your family during this time to be grateful.

I second what Monroe said, that was truly inspiring.
"No one is good except God alone."
Glory and blessings and praise and thanks be to the Lamb. He alone is worthy to be praised.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow, thank you Eric. I definitely needed that reminder.... It's so true. We have so many things to be thankful for, though most of the time I forget about them in the midst of difficult life situations. Thanks for sparking my memory... :) Thank you for always allowing God to speak through you and touch my life.
~God is so good. God is so good. God is so good. He's so good to me.
I think I'll be singing that now to myself as a constant reminder. :)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Williamson Family!

I haven't commented for a while but the prayers here in Downey for Connor are still rising.

I remembering a while back thinking how wonderful it would be for the family to be all home together on Thanksgiving Day and just look how far you've come. I pray that you have the most Blessed Thanksgiving ever and that Cherie is rested, strengthened, encouraged and that she has many special Sisters in the Lord who are ministering to all her needs. My heart goes out to you Cherie from one moms heart to another I can just imagine how much you've learned and grown in these last months. Thank you Eric for keeping us updated on all the family needs and prayer requests we also pray for motivation, rest, and strength for you as you are the spiritual head of your household trusting the Lord with everything He allows in your life. I hope Joelee is home with you all today :) if not I know her heart is there with you I can see that she is a great sister to that brother of hers it must be difficult when she is away I bet she really keeps everyone laughing, from reading the blogs I sense that she is the energy of the family. And finally Connor the boy (man) that brought so many people all over the world together in one common cause to give thanks to our Lord and to realize that we are so dependant on our Heavenly Father for all our needs we can't do anything ourselves but can do all things through Christ who gives us strength for each day just enough for the day, awwwwwwwwww He is so good! Connor you are in our prayers always and every time we hear about the progress and the little milestones you are making we can see your smile like the other night when your alarm went off I can just picture your parents running as fast as they could and then to see you there with that big smile, what a present that must have been a memory that will last and last thank you for allowing your dad to share all these blessings with us it helps us get through our days and helps us remember that most of the stuff we think is important just isn't.

God Bless You All Today

In His presence is fullness of joy
Psalm 16:11

Your Sister in Christ, Linda

Thanksgiving Blessings to Grandparents on both sides and also those uncles
