Day 121 - October 14 - Trial Run
I didn't post last night for the usual reasons - exhaustion and - well, exhaustion. 8-) So I got up a bit early this morning to keep everyone up to date. It's gonna be brief, primarily because I've got a breakfast meeting in half an hour and I haven't broken my fast yet (so I'm hungry!!!).
Today will mark the first time Connor comes home in nearly four months! Unfortunately, it's just a trial run with the occupational therapists to make sure the house and furniture is manageable - ie., that Connor will be able to maneuver through the house, etc. I'm not really sure what we're supposed to do if they say "Hey, that hallway isn't going to work", but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. It will be exciting to see the boy at home again, even if we do have to go back to the hospital afterward.
All the tests yesterday came back clean - no bacteria, his white blood cell count is very good, and so it appears we're on track for a Thursday return to the house and the next step in this process. Thank you for your prayers for his continued health. They're working!
Construction continues apace - they're building forms for the foundation, inspections are today, and the electricians are working on upgrading the panel so our house can support all the equipment without catching on fire. That's a good thing...
Yesterday's fasting was a blessing - it gave me plenty of reminders to spend time in prayer and worship. It was good. I spent a lot of time praying that I would be able and willing to hear the Lord's leading in this situation, and that I would be obedient to it. How 'bout you - anything impress itself on you yesterday?

Hi,
I am wondering - what are y'all using for transportation for Connor? Did you find a van?

It was a joy to fast yesterday! It's funny how every little nagging hunger pain becomes the impetus for intercessory prayer and worship. It also made me think of Christ fasting for 40 days and nights...wow. Connor was lifted before the throne with petitions, praise, and confidence in the goodness of our God.
Hope the trial run goes smoothly and that there are few, if any, bugs to work out.
Music to my ears! Connor...Home!!!! Wonderful! I will praying for SUCCESS!!!!
Love ya,
Evalena
Here's another good devotion that made me think of how we need to be persistant and not give up in our prayers to God I wanted to share it with you'all. Fasting and praying was great yesterday, lots of prayers were going up I think Gods heart was being touched yesterday, He must love it when He sees us loving :)

Until the Whistle Blows
Glynnis Whitwer
"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."
Luke 18:1 (NIV)
Devotion:
My oldest son Josh played offensive line on his football team when he was younger. Solid and strong, Josh's job on the line was to hold the opponents' defensive line back long enough for the quarterback to do his job. The offensive line isn't the most glamorous job on the field, but when they don't do their job well, everyone is quick to see the results. Normally, these steadfast players hold firm, protecting their guy.
Sitting at the practices night after night, I noticed a common issue among the novice players on the field. They often stopped blocking too soon. Shouts of, "Block 'til the whistle blows!" filled the sweaty September nights, and time and again the tired players lined back up and tried again.
The boys knew what they were supposed to do, but they often gave up when they thought the play was over. Sometimes they gave up because holding back a powerful defensive player was tiring. Unfortunately, the play wasn't over until the coach or referee blew the whistle. Until that whistle blew, anything could happen.
The parallel to our prayer lives is astounding. Too often, I have given up praying about a concern, believing the play to be over. Perhaps I think God answered "no" when I don't see an answer in my timeline. Sometimes I see things with human eyes, and give up too soon. I wonder how many times we've stopped praying just shy of experiencing healing, freedom from addiction, or the salvation of someone we love. I'm thankful my family and I never stopped praying about my dad's salvation. He came to Christ two weeks before he died.
Just as my son learned to block until the whistle blows, may we be encouraged to pray until the trumpet blows, revealing that Jesus has returned to earth. In other words -- never give up!
Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your power and majesty. There is nothing in the universe that is too big for You to handle. Help me to remember that You want to hear my prayers, and You delight in answering them when it brings glory to Your name. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Application Steps:
Identify one situation in your life that seems hopeless. Commit to praying for this concern for the next 30 days.
Reflections:
Is there any situation you consistently neglect to pray about?
In some respects, a person who prays for another is like the offensive lineman protecting his quarterback. Is there someone you should be praying for right now? Identify that person and pray.
Do you think your relationship with God affects how He answers your prayers? Explain.
Power Verses:
1 Thessalonians 4:16, "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." (NIV)
Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (NIV)
John 14:12, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (NIV)

I'm reminding you to ask for physical therapy for Connor after he comes home. He will need this to keep his muscles in some kind of tone. Even if he can't move his own legs or arms, you still need to move them for him. Please push for physical therapy.
Linda, that devotional was perfect! Thank you. Pat Robertson of The 700 Club just did a teaching on "The Joshua Plan", that also tells us, we often give up too soon.
Have you ever noticed that when the Holy Spirit it really wanting to communicate something to The Body of Christ the same message comes up around the same time in many places, through many avenues of God's mouthpieces?
I get it Lord. Keep asking, keep pushing, keep believing. Do you think our Father has MORE for us that He wants to give, but is waiting on us? I do.
Expecting Great Things!
