Day 97 - September 20 - Prayer and responses
Yesterday was a difficult day. The whole concept of moving from one part of the hospital to another is rife with anxiety, frustration, uncertainty, and fear. Not exactly the fruits of the Spirit, and so stress abounds - stress between family members, stress between us and the staff, stress at the situation - and eventually our circuit breakers trip and we say things we don't mean, or do things we regret, and all while the nonbelievers around us are watching. You can almost feel their heads shaking - "So, they're not any different from the rest of us".
And it's true - we aren't. The only thing that makes us act any different than anyone else in this situation is that God's strength is manifested in us when we are weak - we believe God has ordained this situation for His purposes, which are to ultimately bring Him glory and to conform us to the image of Christ. So we have a different viewpoint, or at least we try to. But when days like yesterday happen, we overload.
When I overload, my prayer life devolves into "Lord help us Lord help us Lord help us", over and over again. That's where I was yesterday evening, and so I grabbed my iPhone and fired up an electronic Bible I've been using, which has daily readings available. I clicked over to the daily reading for the day, which had two Old Testament passages and one from the New Testament - Luke 11. I pulled up Luke 11 and began to read:
Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." And he said to them, "When you pray, say:
"Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation."
And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything'? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
This is not coincidental, although many will label it so. What this is called is providential - God brings the right words from His Word to the right ears at the right times. And so we continue to lift up our requests, knowing that God has not only NOT told us "no", but also keeps reminding us to ask. Father, restore my son, for Your glory. Amen.
Connor had a busy day with rehab for the first day. Please pray that he will adjust to the new routines and requirements, and that he will respond gracefully to the staff. There are a number of very bitter, unpleasant patients in this unit, and we desire to reflect Christ effectively here. Please pray for us to have the grace, faith, and love to do so to the other patients and staff around us. Pray that people will see Christ in Connor and in our family during our stay here.
Tomorrow, 9/21/08, is "Q". I've been waiting for weeks...
"Quintessential" - (adj.) Representing the perfect example of a class or quality.
Have fun finding another one!

Q- Quick......God is quick to wrap us in His arms when we call out for His help.
Quiet (still, small voice)
Questioner - When Jesus (God) had conversations with people, he often asked them difficult questions to lead them into truth.
GOD is Quality. He gives us quality life through JESUS our LORD.

Heavenly Father, I humbly come before you and lift up Connor and family. I pray Lord God, that You will bring forth perfect healing in Connor both spiritually and physically. Give the Williamson family continued confidence and grace to know that You are being glorified and honored by the way they respond to these difficult situations. May all who observe in the background see Your light shining through them and through the healing work that you are bringing about in Connor. May those who do not yet know You, open their hearts and confess that You alone are God, Lord and Savior to all who are willing to receive your gift of salvation. Amen.

Qualified to help you on even the roughest days.
Since that one was already taken I will add:
He is our Quarter Master: One in the army who provides quarters, clothing, etc. It may be a stretch but we are in the Lord's army and we definitely need His provisions.
I'm sorry that yesterday wasn't the best. I'm sure that in the midst of it all the people around were probably amazed as I'm sure your responses were very mild compared to what they typically see. I'll be praying that your lights will shine
Continuing to uplift you in prayer. May you be refreshed today.

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you & asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will thru all spiritual wisdom & understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord & may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance & patience, & joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has QUALIFIED you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness & brought us into the kingdom o f the Son He love, in whom we have redemption the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:9-14

Quite Wonderful!
Praying for you this morning!
Dear Eric,
I worry many times that you are so devastated by what has happen to your beloved son that your thinking is skewed a bit about God's work and intent. Sometimes I get the feeling that if God does not listen to your pleas that he heal Connor completely, your shortsightedness may keep your son from benefiting from those things that are God driven; such as the miracle of a recent breakthrough that could allow Connor to breath off the vent for a period of time. I fear you will miss some of God's miraculous work because you are effectively saying...if you cannot heal Connor completely then what good are you to him(in essence you are saying...what good are you to me)?
I fear that if you cannot encourage and praise God for everything that God has already done for Connor, it will seem like ingratitude to God. I do remember you listed some praises awhile back, but they seemed to be spiced with bitterness and sarcasm. I wonder if God hears our sarcasms (directly aimed at his heart) as kindly as he hears our praises to him. I imagine God is more gratified by our faith and belief in his wisdom then by our bitterness in him because of a calamity that has befallen us. If life is good to us, we praise him; if life is not so good, we blame him. What kind of faith is it we have?? Bitterness and wondering if we are right to believe in our Lord Jesus Christ is common to most of us when we have been devastated by life. Just don't let your own weaknesses of faith right now fall onto your son....Sins of a father passed on to his son keeps coming to mind.
How can your son hold on to his faith if you continually tell him, in essence, nothing but total recovery is good enough for his(your) life. I have had tragedy befall my family, as most of us do.....and we either give it up totally to God or eventually become bitter and a mockery to God's wisdom. I was fortunate to have my faith deepen, but some in my family lost their faith and are bitter. Fortunately reading The Shack brought one of them back to God.....and we are working on the others.

He is your QUILT: A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric, all stitched firmly together.
A thick protective cover.
SORRY THAT LAST WORD IS FROM SARA...XXOO LOVE YOU MISS YOU!~
I posted a few minutes ago, and then I got to thinking, since it was my first post I should have introduced myself.
I don't know you personally, but I feel like I do as I've been following your blog and praying for your family. I am a close friend of a close friend of yours, and I live in Southern California.
Thanks for the opportunity to share in this journey with you and watch God at work!

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid Rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the flood waters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock.
Mt.7:24-25
Thank you family for sharing your walk with us, thank you for bringing many, many closer to that High Rock, thank you for your mustard seed faith, thank you for your persistence, thank you that through the blogs where you so faithfully spill your guts out in total honesty that you have driven each of us into the Word searching and growing daily especially now as we praise Him through the alphabet, thank you that at the beginning of this storm, I remember you saying in Life or in Death, Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord!
Thank you Lord for being patient with us, you know our hearts and our hurts and our pain you know our strengths and our weaknesses and through it all you love us so much.
Blessed Be Your Name!
Quietude. Another reference to that still, small voice.
Qualified!
As always,

He is our quest--to know Him, to obey Him, to follow Him.
He is our sufficient quantity--boundless in love, mercy, goodness, compassion and righteousness.
Eric, we are glad Connor is finally where he needs to be and getting lots of rehab.
Although it sounds like the first floor environment presents some challenges for him and your family, it may be that Connor is finally in the "field that is ripe for harvest." You and all your family also have a big part to play in that assignment, and we are excited to witness the "harvesting" taking place for our Lord.
We hope Cherie is well now and feeling much better and that all of you are getting the rest that you need.
May God Bless You,
MT

Questionable for the unbeliever...Qualified for ALL!!!
I don't have a "Q" word because it's late in the day--however, I thought how often God comes to us in the QUIET of our days (and nights). It is often difficult to totally see Him at work in the busyness of things--I can imagine the situation on Friday and want you to know that how you reacted is so normal (!!) even though you might have felt that your faith wasn't showing. Yes, nonbelievers might have thought "he's no different than the rest of us" and that's right, to some extent. We are who we are only by God's grace; I think that if we look so "perfect" all the time, it becomes harder for others to think we are "approachable". I don't know if this made sense the way I wrote it, but I just want you guys to know that you are right where you need to be right now--it is all part of God's PROVIDENCE! (that's me, "a day late & a $$ short", as my dad used to say!) Love to you all. p.s. we were in Fresno & Clovis today and couldn't help but think of you guys and your weeks there at the trauma center--and all the lives you touched so positively in that city & facility!
It's like when you are playing scrabble, and you have a "Q" but no "U" so you learn to spell an acceptable scrabble word, such as QAT. But, that's not an attribute of God and all of the good ones seem to be taken.
So, instead of leaving a "Q" word, I will just say AMEN to all of the others, and let you know that today, like all days, you all are in my prayers.
Sleep tight, Connor! Sweet dreams.

Hi Williamson's..
I had to write before i went to bed..Your always on our minds and in our prayers...I just read the comment above that someone wrote to you about all your "questions with God..concern's...your example to Connor.....I have to say that hurt my heart to read what she wrote and made me so ache for all of you.. YOUR FAITH AND YOUR HOPE AND YOUR TRUST HAS BEEN IN YOUR GOD.. YOU ARE HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE..Your such amazing incredible examples of people who are holding on to God..Your praises in your earlier blogs were not sarcastic at all.. i cannot imagine that being said to you..Nobody knows what you feel on a daily/hourly sometime minute per minute basis..I remember walking through cancer for 7 years and getting a few inappropriate comments like the one above from "a friend of a friend".. and i have to tell you how wounding it was..Please know that i totally disagree with the statements.. You people are holding on to Faith with all your might..Connor is living in the greatest test of his life and he is an incredible example to all of us... Eric, Cherie' and Joelle..i'm in awe of you..Please hear my heart.. i am not trying to be upset anybody but i was so saddned to think that you could be so discouraged by what was written to you..Eric..your example to Connor is incredible..You are Giants in the Faith..
I feel unless we walk in someone's shoes we should be very very careful on what we say..The enemy of our soul wants to distroy our faith and we won't let Him win...
we love you and are holding your arms up..
With love and compassion and brokenness..
Kathy MacPhail
In catch-up mode, I'll offer: QUIVER-FILLER (a stretch, I know).
Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. (NKJV)
Eric - you and Cherie are indeed truly blessed!
