Day 74 - August 28 - Science vs. Prayer

First, that's not really a good title for this post, because science and prayer are not mutually exclusive. For the purpose of this post, however, it will suffice. An anonymous comment on a recent thread brings that question to the forefront, though, accomplishing two things - raising the question, and also reminding me that numerous people follow this blog who are not followers of Christ, and they deserve an explanation for my (occasionally) seemingly erratic thought processes.

First, so we're all on the same page, here is what Science tells me about my son -

"Science has done everything it can do. We have nothing that can restore him - nothing. Any tiny improvement he might get back is because he will work really hard for it."

That's what Science tells me. Not much hope, is there? And I'll tell you, if that was my future I'd be very hard pressed not to go find the right equipment and end this agony called "our current life" right this minute.

Fortunately, we do have one option - we can choose to believe what God says in the Bible instead:

"For we know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

"For I know the plans I have for you", says the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you;plans to give you a future and a hope."

And numerous others which promise that God loves us, brings hardship to us in order to mature us, and delights to do good things for His children.

Given my two choices so far, who WOULDN'T pick faith over science?

That doesn't really answer the original question, though - but it lays the foundation for a more indepth discussion about prayer, which (ironically) I almost have ready to go! Watch for it in a blog near you soon!

Thanks Eric, prayer is my favorite subject, without it how would we communicate with our God sure He knows our thoughts He knows our hearts but he wants fellowship with His kids just like we want fellowship with our kids how awful it would be if our kids had no desire to talk to us it would be pretty hurtful. Christianity is a relationship between us and God. We talk to Him, He talks to us. No communication-no relationship. its that simple. Our God desires that we would want to converse with Him to love spending time with Him, Thank you Lord that you gave us free will to choose exactly for ourselves what we want to do, we can choose to love and serve you or we can choose to accept what this world has to offer, my point is, Hey, has anyone taken a look at our world lately?
Love you guys, Go God, Go Connor and Go Williamson Family, God is Good All The Time, Amen!

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
I Peter 1:6-7

I thought of you all when I read this this morning. Then when you added this blog I thought it went along with what you were saying.

Praying for you all.
Charlene

I have been following Connor's blog since the beginnning. I am the Delgadillo's neighbor in Selma. So many things you have gone through remind be of the struggles my husband and I have been through with my son who was a meth addict for four years. Yes I said was as addict because I believe God has set him free when everyone else said it was impossible for him to get his life back. He is living at home now and attending a trade school. He is on the dean's list(has maintained a 95% or better grade) and has only missed 3 days of school since February. Maybe you can't see the connection and that is why I have hesitated to write before. My son chose his situation, yours didn't. But they both have parents who believe the Word of God and in His great mercy. I have chosen to believe the Word of God over what the world has told me and I know that is what you are doing also. It is a minute to minute struggle at times to make our mind chose what is Truth over what we see, but isn't that what faith is? Keep chosing God and His Word!! He never fails. He is not a liar, what He has promised, He will surely do. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He healed in the past and He can surely heal today. There is a Casting Crowns' song, that has been mentioned in the blog before that I would play over and over again. The main thought was I will choose to belive the words of truth. We all know who speaks those words and it is not this world.
I hope this is not to rambling. My heart goes out to you and your family. I just wanted you to know I am praying for you and Connor. Only a parent can really understand what you as parents are going through. If you ever need to talk to someone outside the picture you are welcome to contact me through Paul and Pam.
You are in my prayers,
Phyllis

AMEN, to what you blogged Eric. Our God is so much bigger and indeed He is our only HOPE when all else fails us. It is His promise and we as your brothers and sisters in Christ, stand along side you and receive this promise for you and your family!

Hello to you all--I haven't been able to get on line for over 24 hrs. b/c our server was down...don't realize how much we miss computer access until it's not there. How much more we miss out on if we don't talk to God in that amount of time, though!
Sorry to hear about the up's and down's of the past few days but the verse Eric quoted on this entry about God having a plan is our family's favorite verse. It has held us up so many times & been the encouragement that my 22-yr old daughter needs many times to finish the nursing program at CSU Fresno.
We know that God knows what He has planned next for Connor--and for all of you. I pray everything goes well in San Jose and that you miss the holiday traffic. UofW is a great facility but a long ways away so hope this works out.
Love to you all and prayers from Ripon, CA. Cheryl & family
