Day 69 - August 23 - I lift you up
Connor spent the day in a blue funk, despite having sister and a friend with him most of the day. He ended up apologizing to Cherié for his attitude, and he expressed how shamed and frustrated he feels at his utter helplessness. I don't know how to help him with that, except to tell him I can identify a little bit - his description could also be applied to how I feel about the lack of control I have over the direction this whole thing is going.
The boy had an interesting situation happen today, when the whole of his back started tingling all over, then suddenly he got a shock feeling, like an electric shock, all over his back. It was very painful and lasted a few seconds, and Connor said it felt just like a bad electric shock. Joélle, who was in the room at the time, said that Connor's whole body was jittering and twitching for a few seconds, even his arms and legs. I don't know what it was, but it sure sounds to me like "getting the feeling back"! Bring it, Lord!
Cherié and I were discussing today what all this means, in the big scheme of things. We know it's bigger than us, we just don't know how big. We don't really know anything about what it's about, except bringing God glory. We are just eager to see God show off His glory and power to the world through this situation. It's kind of terrifying and sort of exciting at the same time.
We got a word of encouragement from an unexpected source today as well - one of the RTs told us that he "has never heard so much good stuff about a vent-dependent patient" as he has in the last two days about Connor. The RT was extremely pleased at Connor's condition and progress, and was very confident about Connor getting off the respirator. They have already reduced Connor's vent settings to 28% O2 and a PEEP of 4, and the orders were written to lower it further tonight. So, we'll see what happens in the morning.
Please continue to lift Connor up before the Lord. God is moving.
Isaiah 43:19 -
"Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Praying for Connor and all of "your blues." We can sure understand.
And praying about the feeling Connor is having, that it will continue on.
I posted on your last blog, in case you don't see it, I wanted to write out the scripture verse I found for you.
With your desires to have Connor close to home especially. Psalm 37:4-5 "Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it."
Praying for good sleep for all of you!

Connor is weary, as well as the rest of you. I am in awe of God's movement & Connor's progress. great things are on the horizon...rivers in the desert! May you have a blessed day of worshipping the Lord on Sunday.
Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare & not for calamity to give you a future & a hope."NASB

PRAISE THE LORD!!
On August 16 you reported that within a week, Connor's O2 level had dropped from 40% to 35%, and his PEEP had dropped from 12 to 6.
Today (another week later) you report that Connor's O2 level has dropped to 28% and a PEEP of 4. That's a 30% reduction in the O2 pressure level and a 66% reduction in the PEEP!! In two weeks! I'm no medico, but that sounds pretty good to me!
I'm praising God for His answers to some specific prayers today. And I am SOOOOO JAZZED about the feeling and "shock twitches" Connor experienced today! I'm so sorry he has to endure pain like that, but I'm more thankful that he's FEELING...ANYTHING! Every time you report something of this sort, I run to God, fall on my knees with thanksgiving, and pray for MORE!
I'm also praising God that you all are experiencing some encouragement. Your tone in this post is different than in the past few posts. You still sound tired and shell-shocked (understandably), but you also seem to have emerged from under the storm cloud. I'm praying that God is giving you deep rest tonight, and that tomorrow will be a sweet day of worship and fellowship for you.
Sending you a virtual hug,
Jenann
Though this sounds odd but Praise God for the pain Conner felt!
I am amazed that in Conner's condition he can find a heart to apologize for his behavior! What a guy! I can't even get my boys to apologize for the smallest things at times. Conner, keep the faith and keep honoring God! Put on The Shield everyday and fight the fight, the only fight worth fighting! You have become an inspiration to many!
Williamson family, you are in our thoughts and prayers today! Thank you for your open hearts in all this and your willingness to go down on your knees and not be ashamed!

Could be that all of these days of waiting and waiting and waiting are necessary for healing, knitting and restoration to take place. Possibly a premature move or change would have interrupted that process. Praise God for the shocks and jolts--may they signal a miracle happening even as we pray. No one ever said a miracle happens instantly, all at once! Stand firm and watch the glory of the Lord unfold.

I was praying asking the Lord to give me a scripture for you today, the word I received was in Acts 3, I received it and I believe it, Thank you Lord, Amen
Acts 3:8-9
Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God,
Worshiping and praising You Lord,
In Downey
As a mom, it really touched me that Connor apologized to Cherié for his attitude. How precious that even with all that has changed, he remains the compassionate, caring son that you brought him up to be. I am praying for the miracle of complete healing. But in the interim, I praise God that he is sustaining Connor to still be Connor.
Eric, you described yourself as "pathetically weak" in a prior post. Vince Lombardi said "Adversity doesn't build character. It reveals character." No man who has helped raise children like Joélle and Connor and who continues to minister day on end through this trial can be anything related to weak. Allow yourself to be human, my friend, we are all out here pulling for your family. And we will NOT give up.
Cherié, I am praying that you will be spared the headaches and that you will feel God's peace and comfort on you in a speacial way.
Praying for NEW mercies each morning for the Williamson family!!
Keeping the faith,
Sherri (for the Duarte family)
A nurse friend of mine who works at Fresno Community Hospital said it is very hard to get a person moved from of those facilities, so be sure you get the right one...if you cannot visit, then call AFTER 5 pm (staff will be more honest when you are not talking to the office) and ask if they are:
understaffed
staff patient ratio should be no more than 6 to one RN or LVN and one aide or PCA
Is there an RN on duty 24/7 or is it LVN's after 3 or 7 pm.
How long are their residents there?
Do they have a Physical therapist on staff? In house or consulting with P.T. assistant only on site
May not be pertinent if he is on tube feedings.
How is the food
Do they accommodate all diets
Do they accommodate special requests
grannyp here! I have been home (Spokane Wa. area) a week now, and this is the first time in church since this began. I wept as I watched the young man play drums behind the plexiglass. I could not keep my eyes off him. I pray that God will restore Connor to that position again. Anyway weepy went to lunch at a large restaurant in Spokane (2nd largest city in Wa.) and behind us young men were talking about Moody Bible Institue. Our ears perked up and we interrupted with "our g. daughter goes to Moody in Chicago". They attend here in Spokane. As weepy continued to eavesdrop SHE heard a young man speak of a couple of friends going through trauma....you guessed it! I said "is your last name Brown", ' no but my best friend is Jacob Brown'. Ach!!!! MATT SHEPHERD???? Oh my gosh, God demonstrates his own love to us in this...that while we were still...weepy...( a little diff. take on the verse, guys), God sent this young friend that I had met 2-3 times in the trauma unit to give this granny several badly needed 'young people' hugs!!!! Thank you God. Can't you just see God smile???
Connor, Sweetie, you are one amazing man. You have shown more courage and dignity during the last couple of months than most of us show in years. What you and your family is dealing with is beyond comprehension for most of us. At yet you have show great character and spiritual maturity beyond your years. If you have a down time, it's ok. Our Lord loves you anyway and so do we. You are such a blessing to us and we miss you alot. We continue to pray for the miracle.
We love you and your family.
TR & Susie : )
