Day 68 - August 22 - Prayer against principalities needed
Ephesians 6:12 -
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
CheriƩ and I have been discussing the ministry possibilities available to Connor and to us if he were placed in the Saratoga facility. The reasons we've been given about why we cannot go there have been disjointed and inconsistent at every turn - for example, one of the reasons we were given was that the facility was a sub-acute facility, but then we find that the facility they WILL pay for is also a sub-acute facility. There are more of these types of inconsistencies as well, and it strikes me that we're being prevented from going to this place.
I'm asking each of you to take a few moments when you read this to come forcefully in prayer against these things that are preventing our move to Saratoga. Please pray specifically that any of the enemy's forces arrayed against us would be bound and prevented from interfering in this move; that God would be opening the way for us to move to that facility; that He would move in the spirits and minds of the insurance people and their bosses to arrange for our provision there; and that the insurance people would continue to cover Connor's stay here at the hospital until we can move to Saratoga.
Thanks for the help! Guard yourselves - as you become spiritually active, you also can become targets. Read Ephesians 6:10-20. Be ready.

God's timing and our desires. Two paths that so often do not converge. And throw in a roadblock called insurance and it seems even less likely. But God is bigger than insurance and I'm praying that He will open this door for you and provide rest for your hearts, souls and minds. Praying that he will soften the hearts of "the powers that be" just as he did Pharoah's in Egypt. That will be the battlecry. "LET CONNOR GO!!"
Still praying for the miracle!!
Sherri, for the Duarte family
We are praying..We will stand and fight and believe with you.. God is not deaf and His arm is not too short that he cannot save.. We are trusting for you...We love you and are praying..

We will definitely be praying for this to work out perfectly for you.
Also, you may have already looked, but it looks to me, that Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, has a "Long Term Acute Care" facility. I looked it up, and it looks that way to me, but I may be wrong. That would even be closer, if that worked.
Well, sure be praying for your family.

I have been following this courageous young man's progress for weeks. I have a suggestion from the top of my head and it goes....if it was my dear old mother or father who needed to bw in a nursing home for their remaining time on earth, I would consider the proximity to my home so I could offer them the best care I could. If it was a younger member of my family who we were praying would be cured....I would look for a place anywhere in the world where they could have some hope and great techniques to try. If the youngster had to go alone or if I had to move with him/her, I would still choose the place where the miracle could occur(even God likes some help once in awhile)I have actually NO idea what I would do in your circumstances...this just came off the top of my head.
Dear Eric,
I work in the health field and let's just say insurance companies have "preferred" facilities (kickbacks). You definitely can get prior authorizations for the unpreferred location but you are going to have to fight a little or a lot.Do not interpret this as the other facilities are not good (they could even be better) just not preferred by the insurance company.I will pray that where Connor ends up that it will be the best place for Connor and you.
Sometimes you have to have somebody in charge in Fresno (Connors case worker or physician) call the insurance company and explain why the Saratoga facility is best for Connor.
Eric,
We have been in constant prayer for your family. We will come together tonight and be more forceful in what we ask for. Know that we love you and are here for you. All our love and support always, Melanie and Kim
making war in the Spirit, here in Downey
Someone told me that they were intially denied at Valley Med, but they fought their way in there. It seems the insurance companies are not your friend... you're right, this is a battle.
Let's see a Williamson foot stomping...stand firm; yet remain a Christian! Demand hospital appropriate staff come to your attention; you are paying them! Make them give you priority and sit down and resolve this issue. Demand the top dog of the insurance company and of your company who chose them as a provider. Let your company management also work on your behalf. Tell them you want not another word about a move for Connor unless all parties are agreed upon; don't let them jack you around. It is all to emotional for you all and for Connor. Demand they honor your situation.
I sound so tough don't I...love you and am praying for the doors to open in a manner that doesn't put a knot on your head!

Some random thoughts - in no particular order:
- If you are getting all this info through the case worker then it might be helpful to request to talk to someone at the insurance company directly. Sometimes things take a different turn when they are talking to the patient (or family) versus just having a business conversation with the case worker. Ask for a supervisor or you might have a case worker at your insurance company that you can talk to. Ask the case worker at the hospital who the best person is to call at the insurance company. Helpful hint: Sometimes it helps to empower the people you're talking to, i.e. "You know, Mr. (insert insurance co. person name here) we toured a wonderful facility in Saratoga that was recommended by xxx and they have an available bed, they're close to our home and they're willing to take Connor. What would it take to get him in there?" and then be real quiet. If they say, "we don't cover that". Then ask, "What would need to happen in order for that facility to be covered?" I think you get the idea.
-If he has to go to one of the long distance facilities, what happens after they wean him off the ventilator? How hard will it be to transfer him at that point and where would he go? (Insurance companies usually only pay for the first 90 days or so of being at the facility and then Medi-Cal kicks in - so what happens if he comes off the ventilator on day 91 and needs to be transferred somewhere?) If you're not sure who to ask about that, you could try asking one of the case workers at the actual facilities because they deal with all that paperwork all the time.
-I seem to remember that you got an insurance lawyer. Call him. Find out what your rights are. There might be some magic words you could say to the insurance company, like "appeal" or something that might make this situation drag out so long for them that they would be willing to do what you are asking. Remember, their first goal is to get him in a facility as soon as possible to get that 90 day clock going.
-How close is the nearest emergency room to any of these locations? Yes, there are only so many things these facilities can handle. They are not a full blown hospital.
-Insist on touring the long distance facilities prior to even thinking about Connor going there!
-The good news is that it is Friday, which means some of the people who work at the insurance company and most of the people that are trying to fast-track this will be off for 2 days.
-If need be, employ the Doctor to explain to the insurance company how Connor's health is not all that stable. (Even though he might be doing well right now) It was only a few days ago that he had a temp. that could develop into pneumonia and he might need to go back into ICU if that happens. (which is true) What you really want to emphasize is his possible need to be in ICU again. The insurance company only wants to pay for transportation to the facility, and not to the facility, back to the ICU and then again to the facility. Ambulance rides are expensive. But most importantly, you and the Doctor must be able to say with some certainty that Connor will not need the ICU at all, in the near future. In fact, that's a good question to ask the Doctor. "What do you think the likelihood of Connor needing to be in the ICU in the near future is?" If you get any answer short of "I'm fairly certain he won't need to be there" then take that info to the insurance company. Of course, all of this is to buy you some time. At some point, he will need to be moved.
-When checking out potential facilities the most important areas to check out are: 1) the RT's - Connor's life depends on them (not to undermine his dependence on God who is obviously #1) but they are even more important than the physician and 2) the Rehab - Connor's recovery depends on them (again, I'm acknowledging that God is ultimately in charge of that too)
I hope I'm not coming across as too parental with my directives. I just know what it's like to be in your shoes with a spinning head and I have been helped when someone has told me just a basic thing to remember, that in any other circumstance might be second nature but because of the spinning head thing, it isn't.
I think I've successfully downloaded all the random thoughts that I had floating about for now. If I come up with more, I'll comment.
Feel free to contact me if you would like - lori @ bonconnection.com
And remember - God knew ALL of this before even one of Connor's days came to be. And He knows exactly where Connor will end up.
Dear Williamson Family,
Our prayers are with you as this is very difficult. Please remember that if the Lord opens a door, it may not be the door you want but He is the Great Physician and He alone knows the plans for Connor and your family. You must trust what God is doing and have faith that He will take care of Connor in the facility of His choosing and that may not be your first choice. Give it to the Lord and then have a peace about it that you are willing to leave it in His hands no matter what he decides.
That is the only thing that got me through my rough time when my husband was diagnosed with his Brain Tumor. Someone sent me an email that I have kept to this day. It talks about, giving your request to God and leaving them there. You can't take them back because you don't think he can handle them or that he isn't paying attention to you. You have to give it to the LORD TOTALLY, don't take it back. God has a plan. Remember you are in the car in the back seat and you have to trust the "driver" to get you where HE wants you to go.....
We are, praying for your comfort and peace in a very difficult situation.
Sandy
OK, here are a few more thoughts:
I went online and checked out the difference between "sub-acute" and "long term acute care". From what I gathered, it seems like LTAC is usually part of a hospital because the capabilities of what they can deliver from a medical standpoint are higher. It sounds like they are more capable of delivering the level of medical care that you would get in a hospital (just at a lower cost). It also sounds as if it is more of a short term stay (in spite of the name).
My guess would be that the insurance company wants Connor to have this higher level of medical care versus what a sub-acute facility could deliver at this time. (Not a bad idea.) Remember, the keyword is "at this time". It won't be like this forever.
It would be good to ask questions to figure out if this is what they are thinking and also what happens after he has been there for a while. What are their parameters for transferring him out of there? Where would he go? What needs to happen in order for him to go to a sub-acute facility?
All of this is assuming that I understood correctly the differences in what I read online. If you have the bandwith to check, I Googled "sub-acute care" and "long term acute care".
Hope this helps.
Still praying.
It is true that God is in control and knows the big picture, but it doesn't hurt to question authority, meaning the insurance guru's. Ask questions, and lots of them. Give them different scenarios, and see what their answers are. My father was at Kaiser and they knew nothing about the terminal disease he had, but UCSF Medical Center specialized in it and had done cutting edge research in CJD and we wanted him there. They fought us on it, wanted to send him to the VA Hospital, just because, (they probably didn't want to cover his expen$e$) but ultimately agreed after we sent our "Appeal" letter. They seemed to be afraid of a lawsuit or something, so that little "A" word may be necessary to use, as someone above said also. God doesn't want us to be "doormats" either, which is what the insurance companies treat us like sometimes when it comes to cutting costs, in order to benefit their pocketbook. Your expenses are important too, and they shouldn't benefit from your hardship. I pray that God's power will trump theirs, and they will back down and allow the best move for you, as well as Connor. AMEN!
Much wise information and advice from Lori!! It is appropriate that you make the appeal, sometimes there are ways for facilities to "become" preferred providers.
We continue to pray for God to sort this out and make Connor's new room ready and comfortable so he can continue healing. We pray also that God's solution bring relief and peace to Connor's family.
I will continue to be praying for you on all matters.
I pray too, that at this time you can feel the Arms of Jesus surrounding you all..for comfort and continued strength.
This battle too, belongs to the Lord.
Your strength will rise, as you wait upon the Lord.
Blessings, Bonnie

Woke up early this morning praying for you...My heart kept hearing level ground..I was asking God to give you level ground..Your ground right now that you stand on..isn't level... it's all messed up..so i looked up these verses that spoke to my heart and may they minister to your's..Thank God his word becomes the "anchor" of our soul..
"Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you.. Show me where to walk for i give myself to you. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord; i run to you to hide me. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a FIRM FOOTING.. fOR THE GLORY OF YOUR NAME, o Lord, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress." Ps. l43:8-11 NLT
"Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become LEVEL, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,(Yes God) and ALL MANKIND TOGETHER WILL SEE IT. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. Is. 40:4..
My heart is stirred because God has a way of making this mountain.. this hill..LEVEL...
We are praying and battling and trusting God for His provision..HE IS ABLE..
When man says impossible..God say's ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE..
