Day 53 - August 7 - General Update
My mom, in her infinite wisdom, has pointed out that once I mention something on the blog, it becomes important to follow up with it so everyone who is wondering won't do so in vain. So, in an effort to get caught back up (and keep mom off my back), here goes:
- swollen left arm. They think this was caused by his IV failing because they've put so many in for so long. They moved the IV and the swelling has reduced. This would qualify for a long-term prayer request, as they can't continue putting IVs in indefinitely, but they still need to keep fluids etc. moving. Pray that Connor's veins will stand up to the abuse they're receiving as long as necessary, and that the Lord will provide for that.
- lungs/coughs/hiccups/etc. His saturation levels remain relatively stable now that they've put him back on a different vent setting. This setting is normally used when patients are on the rotating beds, and not the regular beds, so they have concerns about whether they can use his speech valve with these settings. He hasn't had any more hiccups of which I'm aware. His lungs still remain clear, although they are always concerned with pneumonia and other infections.
- MRSA etc. He still has this, in an apparently inactive state, so the doctors refuse to release him from isolation. Some of the staff is trying to get the isolation restrictions lifted, so that's an item for prayer. it would be nice to be able to touch him without gloves again!
- how'd he do with the juice and burger? Connor swallowed everything successfully and without trouble. He is currently restricted to one sip or swallow at a time, with one or two swallows between to make sure everything has gone on down. The therapist's concern is that if his epiglottis doesn't work right, stuff can get down into his lungs, risking pneumonia again. She wants to be extra cautious - even though he passed the multiple-swallows test with flying colors, because of his trach she has no easy way of finding out if it's not working right. So she wants to take the process very easy until she's really confident that he's doing alright. She says she'll wait a few days in this mode before she re-evaluates that decision.
So that's the things I can remember. If I'm missing an update on something, let me know. Also, if you want mom's Macaroni and Cheese recipe, you'll need to make more noise. 8-)

IDEA: They put a permanent port in Momma so that they have an access port from here on if she needs any type of iv. Hers is in her leg because of previous radiation on her chest. But it is good for 5-7 years...I'd definitely throw that out as an option.
It has to be flushed every 4-5 weeks. She just goes by the office and they run a solution through it to insure it stays open and accessible.
Love you,

Hello Eric and family,
I have been following your blog for over a month now but haven't left a comment. However, seeing the picture of Connor drinking his Jamba Juice brought me to tears! What wonderful news!!! Praise God! And as someone commented previously, yes, this is but an 'appetizer'... with more to come! :)
Thank you for the update on Connor's health status. Some very encouraging news, as well as more things we will be concentrating on in prayer.
Connor, you are an AMAZING person, filled with such Love and Strength. I admire you greatly!
I pray for you each day, that you continue to make progress and that your body will be restored. I also pray that you continue to find comfort in God and in all your family and friends, and that you feel the love and prayers of all those out here in Connorland! There are sooo many lifting you up in prayer!
With love and hugs~

We want Mac and Cheese! My mom never made me anything except the stuff from the box. Is there any other way? I'd love to be able to serve to my praying kiddos, "Connor's Grandma's Mac and Cheese!" What a sweet reminder the recipe will be of when God did GREAT things in the Williamson Clan and we got to watch and participate in prayer.
Thanks, in advance and with confidence that you'll post your recipe on the site!
Elaine
is there an update on the need (or not) for the "happy pills?"
Thanks Mom!!
Updates appreciated!
Hope recipe follows.
I rejoice with all of your family. God is totally in control and so often forget that we are not! It is good to see pictures of him sitting up and drinking.
We watch daily and continue to be thrilled by Connor's progress even though it seems to be baby steps. God is working through Connor for all of us. Please remind him that so many of us truly care.
and the recipe...GOTTA HAVE IT!!!

Thanks for the update! I had been really concerned about that swollen arm! Appreciated clarification on other points, too! What a wonderful Father we have! It seems to me, from a distance, that each time there is discouragement His Presence comes through in the form of toe movement, ability to swallow, appearance of perspiration!! Looking forward to other signs of progress!! Continue to lift you all up to our Loving Father!!

Thank you Mom, great minds think alike hahaha you knew we were curious... My Debbie's arm did the same thing the IV went into her skin instead of in her arm it was huge. They put one called a Hickman Catheter in her leg in case of an emergency. Anyhow down here in Downey we are praising the Lord for His faithfulness, who would have thought, real food, I thought they would have started out with cream of wheat or something. I bet Connor would like some of Grandmas macaroni and cheese, Connor you are so cool, we are so blessed to know you through Connor Watch This family of God just keeps on amazing me.God you are good all the time, Amen!
Big Hugs,

We love you

I also had a permenent IV line put in. I believe it was called a "pic line", not sure of spelling. They were also able to draw blood from it.
Can we please have Macaroni and Cheese, Grandma? The box is okay but you make the best homemade. *wink* *wink* *nod* *nod*
Thanks for the updates. I'm thrilled all was well with the "contraband".

God is answering all of our prayers!! Soon this will all pass and just be something to remember and never be forgot, but left in the past. Love you all,he is getting better and better each day, baby steps! Miss you . xxoo....Sara
Hi, guys,
We are so excited about the swallowing and Jamba/burger situation!! We have been following Connor's blog daily while here in WA visiting my family. We love and miss you guys. See you on Wednesday!
Thank-you, Jesus, for encouraging Connor and the whole family!
Kristie and Wade
OK...we are jumping up and down for the recipe......can you feel it! We perhaps will have to call it either "Granny Tigger and Connor (the boy) Mac and Cheese".....OR the "Williamson sweet home Mac and Cheese". We ALL would love the recipe along with loved hearing from Granny herself! What a wise woman.
SO glad Connor is making progress even at baby step speed. Funny how when they are babies we want them to hurry and move and even as they grow our own anxiousness shows. God is good and He made it possible for Connor to have DESSERT/Jamba Juice before eating dinner. My kids would be SO envious to know he got JAMBA JUICE for dinner.
Thank you for all the updates as we hate to ask, but are always wondering how the whole family is doing.
Hugs from MH.
I know this is very silly but the fact that you could bring up the mac and cheese in such a traumatic moment actually made me tear up.
I actually had this weird
(and in some ways beautiful) thought.
Could you imagine if you made this recipe available and all of us cooked it for dinner the same night and thought of Connor and your family?

Recipe! Recipe! Recipe! Recipe! Louder! Louder! Louder! Thanks, granny, for sharing your delicious dinner recipe! We used to have it
as a main dish too -- lots of protein
in that real cheese, not powdered.
I'd love to have a "Make Mac & Cheese from Scratch for Connor's Honor" day!
