Day 37 - July 22 - Fresno or Bust
My day started at 2:00AM Eastern (11PM Pacific) when I awoke to the wonderful sound of the alarm telling me it was time to shower and drive the 90 minutes to Dulles International.
My stand-by experience started great as I was given a seat on a 757... seat 15C... the exit row... with lots of legroom! Then we taxi'd out only to discover a mechanical issue with the plane (which I'm glad they found PRIOR to takeoff). So we headed back to the gate.
Then the scramble began... when, how, where, arghhh.... This was soon followed by the soothing voice of the woman at the counter letting us know that a new gate had been established, a new plane had been found, and hopefully (please!) I'll have that same seat with the legroom!
As of now... 9:42 arrival in Denver and then standby to Fresno which will hopefully put me in prior to midnight...
Time to board the flight!

Safe travels Kent...I know Eric will be ecstatic to see you!!
I just got an email from my llttle brother, telling me that he's back on a new plane, in the same non-legroom-challenged seat, and on his way to Denver. He hopes to make a connection with a flight which arrives in Fresno at 1 PM this afternoon. If he misses that, the next flight arrives after 11 PM tonight.
You can imagine which one I'm praying for! Please pray for a quick and smooth transition in Denver for him - I want him here!
Love you guys...
Kent,
"The road is long...with many a winding road." Praying that you get to Fresno sooner rather than later. So glad you can be here to support your family and very thankful for the friend that God used to make this possible.

Oh the thrill and adventure of stand-by travel! Wishing you traveling mercies Kent! Praying for your safe arrival.

Well, he missed his connection by 10 minutes. Now he's trying to find something else to get here sooner than midnite. We'll keep praying...
Ahhh... Mexican food in the mile high city! Not quite like the Mexican food in El Paso where we grew up, but I'll take it none the less.
Denver Airport... I've got a view out the restaurant window staring at the Big Blue sky and the distant horizon. It's nice to be out West again.... I'm sure the view will get old by 6pm tonight, but for now I'm gonna enjoy it.
If I can't get on the 6 o'clock, I should be able to catch the 9:42...
