Day 23 - July 8 - Fear
Night. Connor lies in his bed as we come in to see him before we go to sleep. He is visibly panting with his mouth, although no air can move in or out. As we begin speaking to him, he makes it clear that he doesn't want us to interrupt him. It is also clear that he is on the verge of panic as he tries, but fails, to breathe on his own. Of course, the ventilator and trach prevent him from taking a breath, but that doesn't mean much when you're trying to breathe. We try to calm him, and succeed to some extent - but he remains fearful. We speak words of encouragement and exhortation, and we pray and sing together, but nighttime brings fear to my son.
In this, he is just like me. Cherié struggles against anxiety in the mornings, while Connor and I fight depression in the evening. Through this all, Joélle maintains a pretty even keel - it is apparent much of the time that our kids are more able to deal with this than we are. I think the times Joélle is hit the hardest are the moments when she feels like she misses her brother, even when they're singing together at the bed. You catch a glint of falling tears as she sings with him, and you feel her pain and grief. So I have a special request -
I would like any of you who would like to help in some way to consider this - we need some special prayer warriors who will help us by providing specific prayer at specific times: for Cherié, that she would be able to overcome her anxiety in the morning hours from 0500 to 0800 Pacific Daylight Time; for Connor and I, that we would be able to overcome our depression and fear in the evening hours from 6 to 9 PM PDT; and for Joélle, that Christ would be filling the void she is feeling in her heart because of her brother (not so much of a timeframe on this one, but rather more of an "all the time" request). What I'm hoping is that you might consider lifting us up for these specific things during these specific times - for example, you might commit to pray specifically against Cherié's anxiety during the morning hours. Does that make sense?
You don't have to tell us you've decided to do this. You don't need to do anything but commit before God to take one or more of these needs and lift them up daily for us. We are really wrestling in these areas, and we need your help.
It is so encouraging to have your support from just about every time zone on the planet. The massive number of people who are caring for us in prayer is overwhelming. The fact that there are warriors on the other side of the planet praying at their desks during the day while we sleep through the night is incredibly comforting. So even if you're in another time zone or country, you are actively supporting Connor, Cherié, Joélle and I when you're on your knees. Please consider stepping up to this task for us if you feel led to do so.
In addition, we have a general prayer request as well. Tomorrow (Wednesday 7/9) in the late morning or early afternoon, the folks from Valley Medical Center are coming to evaluate the boy. While the RTs think he's ready to transfer, and the nurses going off duty for the week all came to say goodbye to us because they think we're not going to be here next week, I have a lot of fear that the Valley people are going to decide they can't help him. Please be praying for a positive outcome for the evaluation, and that I would not throw away my confidence.
Thank you for your faithfulness.

Dealing with Discouragement
"Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God."
— Psalm 42:11
It is not unusual for even the most spiritual people to have their days of doubt.
Moses, on one occasion at least, was overwhelmed by his circumstances. After he had listened to the constant complaining of the children of Israel, he basically told the Lord, "I'm fed up. Just kill me. I don't want to deal with this another day."
Elijah, after his contest with the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel, heard that Jezebel had put a contract out on his life. He was so overwhelmed by his circumstances, so discouraged, so uncertain, and so filled with doubt that he said to God, "Take my life."
Even the great apostle Paul had moments when he was discouraged. He wrote to the church at Corinth, "We were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life" (2 Corinthians 1:8).
Jeremiah, the great prophet, faced it as well. He was ridiculed and harassed for giving out the Word of God. Because he was tired of the pressure he was facing, it made him want to stop giving out God's Word altogether. He said, "The word of the Lord was made to me a reproach and a derision daily. Then I said, 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name' " (Jeremiah 20:8–9).
You are not the only one who has ever faced doubt or uncertainty, or has been perplexed as to why God did not work in a certain way. We may be in the midst of God's work and can't see the big picture as He can.
I pray for you all throughout the day as God brings thoughts of each of you into my head. I will continue to do so. But He's put Connor specifically on my heart in a way I can't really explain. I count it a privilege to go before our LORD and petition Him for Connor's complete healing, as well as all the "baby steps" along the way. I'll be praying specifically about depression and fear for him (and for Eric) during the hours of 6 - 9 p.m. from here on out.
This reminds me of a similar thing we did for Pastor Mike when he was really sick prior to his liver transplant. We had people praying for him around the clock. Each person took a specific time slot and committed to praying at that time every day until Mike was physically delivered. I don't remember if we took it in 15 or 30 minute increments...but every time slot was covered for all 24 hours of the day. Every day. It was powerful and amazing to participate in that. I would LOVE to see a similar thing take place for you all. With as many people as we have keeping watch and praying all over the world and in every time zone, this should be a fairly simple thing to accomplish.
Brothers and sisters around the world, if you read this, what do you say?
In Christ,
Jenann
I am Pastor Mike's sister in Mississippi -- just reading about the prayers that went up for my brother 24 hours a day and remembering that time in our family's life has tears streaming down my face. I know the helplessness we felt during those days, weeks, and months before his transplant - but I also remember tremendous comfort from praying and knowing that GOD was BIGGER than it all! That is why, even being so many miles away from Connor and the Williamsons, I can pray and know that I am doing the VERY BEST thing there is to do for them! -- I check this website 5 or 6 times a day, then call my mom so that she has an update and knows how to pray too. We so enjoyed getting to know Connor when he came to hunt with Mike, Josh and David a couple of winters ago. Please be assured of our prayers!

Praying for you all now :)
"The Lord will watch over your coming & going both now & forevermore." Psalms 121:8
God knows each of your every need. He even knows if its the right time to move Connor. I am confident that even the evaluation is in God's timing. God knows best & will have Connor where he needs to be.
Today's daily verse from klove.com:
Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God's presence.
~ Ephesians 3:12, NLT
Praying for you all, and will keep these specific requests and times in mind. I can relate to all of these things in some way, but our Father understands perfectly, and I pray that He will keep you all in His perfect peace.
You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. (there's that word again!)
~Isaiah 26:3 (Amplified Bible)
Prayers are very heavy for you all today! Conner is keeping my prayer time vivid and alive! His most current picture with his beautiful smile is my new background on my computer today...he keeps me smiling, pursuing God, and on my knees!
PRAISE GOD FOR THE SHRUGGING OF SHOULDERS!!!!!!!!!!
Love you all,
Evalena

This time zone thing is kinda warping my mind especially after having read "The Time Traveller's Wife".
In any case, I'm glad I'm kinda "early" and that Wednesday 9th July hasn't quite started on your part of the world whilst it's kinda coming to an end in my part of the world (I'm sitting 8 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time, which makes it +15hours PDT) so i'm still on time for the Rehab team's visit! Phew!
Yups will be praying!
I'm positive it'd be OK cos we hope in God. He will know when the best time and where the best place would be for Connor. All the best!
Psalms 27:14
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
xxxooo,

Blessings to you all this morning, I was thinking about the prayer request and could identify totally with Cherie, how she gets anxious in the mornings. When my daughter was in the ICU for 3 1/2 months, the worst time was mornings on my way to the hospital I never knew what I would see or find out when I walked through those doors, I just wanted to run the other way, I wish I would have known the Lord back then, sighhhhhhhhhhh, Now I know His mercies are new every morning something to help you all get through, draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. God Bless you all today as you wait for the next break through, Hey, maybe he will scratch his nose, I can't wait!
Loving you and praying for you without ceasing in Downey
It's 9:21 am, I'm on my knees, asking God to give wisdom to his human medical servants evaluating Connor and use their brains and hands to do HIS WILL....
I will be praying this over the next two hours or so.......
Eric, Cherie, Joelle, and Connor,
I have been a little hesitant to write something before now, one, because I have never really met you, and two, because I felt inadequate to try to say something that would bring encouragement in this time. But this morning I really felt like I wanted to let you all know I have been lifting you up in prayer throughout the day. God constantly brings you all to mind and me to my knees in fervent prayer. My prayer life has been dramatically altered from where it once was.
Recently I have been reading in Isaiah and today several verses stood out to me:
“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” ~Isaiah 42:16
“He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those who have young.” ~Isaiah 40:11
I pray that as you are led down this unfamiliar path you will feel the Lord holding you close to His heart and leading you in the way you are to go, and that you can hear Him whispering in your ear that He’s still there.
Joelle, I want you to know that over the past week I have been praying for you specifically. I am an oldest child and a big sister and I can only begin to imagine everything that has fallen on your shoulders and what you’re going through. Please know that my thoughts and prayers and love are very much with you.
Continuing to journey with you in prayer,
Much love from your sister in Christ,
Becca M
Eric - My mother tells me that we knew each other as children in Texas. I do not remember you boys but I do remember some sleep overs with your sister and boys were around but I didnt pay much attention. I mention this because I think you would want to know of how the Lord is providing prayer warriors from moments past for every moment now. I am praying. Linda Speedy Stimaker/ Anchorage Alaska
