Day 18 - July 3 - Manna from heaven

We awoke this morning wrestling with a lie - that somehow, if we had only made better choices when this expedition began, Connor would be in a better condition. We fought with the idea that OUR choices have put Connor where he is. While we understand that this is a lie from the pit, it can be a very seductive lie. Cherié and I wrestled with it for a bit, praying that we would understand the truth. Afterward, I quickly checked the blog to see any comments that had been made, and God used the posts this morning to whisper peace and hope into my spirit. Thank you all for your continued comments, prayers, verses, and songs - I don't have the words to explain how much they mean to us.

So - we went to Connor's bedside during his hour on his back. First the physical - the nurse told us that Connor is progressing much faster than the doctors expected! He's not quite ready to get off the bed, but they're lowering the pressure on the respirator to see how he adapts to the lower pressures. They will still be slowly lowering the O2 levels, but right now they're looking at the pressure numbers.

Now the other stuff. Connor and I talked together for about 45 minutes about what's going on. First I told him about all the people praying for him around the globe (somebody add Poland to the list!). I told him how that meant that at every moment of every day and every night, somewhere on the earth, there are saints lifting up Connor before the throne of God. Then I told him about the many, many people who are being blessed by the work God is doing through Connor - the folks through the blog; the nurses and doctors that are following his story; the Christians whose faith is being strengthened; the non-believers who are being drawn closer to Christ through this event. Connor's eyebrows kept going up and up!

Then, it got really cool. I was speaking to him from about six inches from his face, when the words that poured out of my mouth ceased to be directed by me. I don't claim that God was speaking through me, but I do believe that the Holy Spirit put the words there. Connor was locked onto what I was saying - not drowsy, not sedated, but just gripped by what God was speaking out of my mouth. I told Connor how I was absolutely convinced that God was doing a mighty work through him. I also told him about the spirit of oppression and despair that I sensed all over this hospital, and I told him that we were coming against this in Jesus' name in order to protect Connor. I told him that we had prayer warriors who were praying protection for him, and that I was praying for God to place angels around Connor's bed for his protection in this battle. Connor's eyes went up a bit at that point, so I told him what Tod had said about angels - "I don't have none of those little baby angels who shoot arrows into your butt! I've got Marine angels! My angels are ripped, they've got brush cuts, and if they weren't carrying swords they'd be carrying M16s! That's my kind of angel!" Connor grinned as I reminded him of the first words out of their mouths every single time an angel appears in the Bible - "Do not be afraid"! I told him why that is - because they're so frightening that they make you wet yourself when they show up! Connor really liked that, and I reminded him that THOSE guys were the ones that God was using for Connor's protection, not those little baby angels who shoot arrows in your butt!

I also told him that the Bible calls them "ministering spirits". To me, that means since they're warriors first, but they also minister, that makes them sort of "spiritual medics" - guys who can fight, but can also take care of their wards in the midst of the firefight. Connor really liked that image.

Then I told him the story of Elisha's servant in 2 Kings 6, where God opens the servant's eyes to see the forces gathered around. I told Connor I was praying the God would let Connor have a glimpse of his unseen help, and that maybe one night he would open his eyes to see a great big, Marine-looking guy with wings out of his back, standing there with drawn sword, who would turn around and see Connor looking at him and say "Got your back, bud. Hold fast."

I don't know why I felt compelled to tell you that story, except that it was an uplifting, encouraging time with my son, and we parted with the assurance that in the midst of this very difficult trial, God walks with us and upholds us with His strong right hand.

I pulled this from a comment left on an earlier thread, and it meant so much I wanted to make sure everybody got to see it -

We are praying and most importantly trusting in the Lord. I am writing to you from Nairobi, Kenya.
My parents have a 5:00am prayer group I call them the prayer warriors. They are committed, and have been praying for the past 4 years without fail.
I sent my dad the link and asked that they remember Connor. My dad responded and said, "it is done" they pray without ceasing, for this is the will of God.

I ask that God grant you the strength that your family needs, I pray that he covers you and your family with his precious blood. I believe that God is able.

AMEN!

God bless you.

Tod is absolutely right about the angels.I remember crying out(literally)to Christ one night in S.E. Asia when I knew death was imminent.I look back today and am certain an angel of the Lord intervened on my behalf. Why? Because God has a plan for me and He will see me through until the day of completion.

Oh yeah,my angel wasn't a Marine with all due respect to Tod.Mine was an AIRBORNE RANGER!Heh-heh.

This is amazing, all my Promise devotions this week are on Spiritual Warfare, God is so awesome,He is always the best coordinator of what we need when we need it, speaking of coordinating, can you imaging the Marriage Supper, Awsome! Love you all and will continue in battle until the Lord has given Victory, Amen!

Facing the spiritual battle

Finally, dear brothers and sisters, I ask you to pray for us. Pray first that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you. Pray, too, that we will be saved from wicked and evil people, for not everyone believes in the Lord. But the Lord is faithful; he will make you strong and guard you from the evil one.… May the Lord bring you into an ever deeper understanding of the love of God and the endurance that comes from Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 NLT

About this week's promise

In order to be effective on the battlefield a soldier must be both well trained and properly equipped. The warrior must be alert for surprise attacks. So it is in our spiritual battle with Satan. Determined to destroy our faith by leading us into sin and discouragement, Satan attacks with blatant temptation and deceptive lies. The Bible teaches that the best weapons for this warfare are the Word of God and prayer.

The faith of the Thessalonian believers was being tried by persecution. Undoubtedly some of them were wavering, even failing, as the surrounding evil put them to the test. This was an important time for Paul to remind them that, no matter what happened, God's faithfulness would prevail over evil and strengthen them so that they could endure.
Thank you Lord, your faithful love endures forever, and thank you for Marine Angels!
God Bless, Linda from Downey

Went with a buddy and his wife for a little ride this morning. Pleasanton to Livermore, Mines Rd, Del Puerto Canyon Road to breakfast in Patterson. Up 33 to 132 and over to 580. West on Corral Hollow to Livermore and then home. Had plenty of time during this solitude to think about the Williamsons and especially Connor. I am saying my prayers for you everyday buddy. Hang in there and keep the progress positive!

Hi Tex & Cherie - definitely sounds like things are improving, slowly but surely. Hopefully the improvement continues to a point where Connor can be moved to a facility closer to home. Sometimes just being closer to home improves ones spirits. Thinking of always.

I've already added Poland to the list! (And Kenya, too, since I missed it the first time around.) ;)

Eric, God was apparently compelling you to tell the story. We're all a part of this with you and need encouragement -- to know that our prayers are effective. Your daily multiple updates lead us in the way we should pray: when to come before God with thanksgiving, when to give praise and adoration, when to drop to our knees pleading on behalf of Connor and all of you. I'm so thankful for this blog! And I'm very encouraged by the story you've shared with us today.

I love Tod's description of angels. It's so apt! Angels ARE warriors! And it's nice to know they're on our side because we're on God's side. It reminds me of Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness." The enemy attacks. Warrior angels are dispatched to the front lines. They stand guard and battle the demons fueled by the prayers of God's people. That's a great image to have in my mind as I pray for Connor. Thanks for sharing the story.

Jenann

P.S. How is Vanessa? I'm also praying for Tod's family.

I fully believe that the saints that followed Jesus on earth are now following and praying for us as God's angels.

Paul, Peter, Mother Mary, Joseph...just think of all the power that is ours for the asking. Praying for one another and claiming the power of his angels and saints is what he commands us to do. Keep talking to your boy, you are intereceding for him, teaching him, growing his faith, you are leading your family with your faith Eric...it is so empowering to other men who see it is not a "wimpy" thing to do...IT IS THE MOST POWERFUL THING A FATHER CAN DO FOR HIS FAMILY.

God bless you today.

What a great image to imagine. I love the fact that Connor loves the humor in the story and is remaining uplifted by all that love and pray for him (knowing him or not!).

Stay strong!

Eric,

Proverbs 22:6 tells parents that if they train a child in the way he should go; when he is old he will not depart from it.

You and Cherie' have always made certain that your boy was properly trained. Connor's life is a testimony of God's faithful promise-keeping to both of you. You said you questioned some of the decisions you had made on the journey leading to today. I believe the Lord would have me remind you that you have raised Connor in the way he should go. Buddy, he is NOT departing from it! To God be the glory! But to you goes the encouragement. You've done what God commanded you...pointed Him to the Living God...and now He is keeping His promise.

It's good that we hold fast, but the truth is it is the Lord who is the One who will truly "Hold Fast." That kind of strength is beyond even the Marines or the Airborne Rangers. (or even the Navy Seals!)

John 10:27-28
27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand."

...that's quite a grip.

Love for the Slavich family,

Jeff

Saving Connor Williamson!! ;)
Awesome images, Eric, and so true. God's Angels come in all sizes, including the woman who met you at the ICU, ministering to the needs you and Cherie have - He loves you as well, and ministering to you is as important to Him as ministering to Connor. Thank you so much for sharing that with us as well - it's a good reminder that our God is a Warrior, and He fights for us!
We'll be on an overnight drive, and keep you all in prayer as we go - from about 10PM-4AM your time.
The Victory and the Glory is the Lord's, but we must keep up the battle!! It's an honor to serve and be served by you all!!

Hi Williamsons!
You guys are such an encouragement to me! I know this is selfish, but I am absolutely loving having you in Fresno -- I almost feel guilty for enjoying it so much! Each day I go to the hospital hoping to be of some encouragement to you, and I leave having been blessed again by your loving family (including the extended family)! Thanks so much for being such great friends!

This morning i opened my bible to read in Ecclesiastes. Instead i landed on a page in Proverbs where i had already highlighted some verses. I felt i needed to share Proverbs 3:12 that says, "the Lord disciplines those he loves" and Prov. 3:24-26 "when you lie down you will not be afraid;when you lie down your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared." Prov. 4:1-4 "Listen my sons, to a father's instruction;pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. When i was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother, he taught me and said, "lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live." Prov. 4:10-12 "Listen, my son, accept what i say, and the years of your life will be many. I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk your steps will not be hampered;when you run you will not stumble." Prov. 4:23 " Above all else guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." I will continue to be praying for connor and all of you.

Hi Eric & Cherie;
My heart, my love and my prayers go out to you.
I am a member of Morgan Hill Bible Church, and needless to say we pray for Connor at every service, every meeting and every get together....I read the blog every morning, and before I do I say a prayer from the news I got the night before. Thank GOD for the blog, it lets us know what we need to pray for.
Most of us have no idea the suffering Connor, or the two of you are going through. PRAISE GOD you are holding up.
My love and prayers, Betty
