Day 9 - June 24 - Surgery Part 2
Connor is out of surgery. The surgeon was extremely pleased with how well everything turned out. He said everything went as well as he could have hoped. The vertebrae are now solidly fused together in their correct alignment, Connor's torn disc has been cleaned out and replaced with a spongy washer-like thingy, and everything is buttoned back up. The nurses just called and told us he is back on his way to his room, although we haven't been able to see him yet.
The doctor did express a bit of concern - apparently one of the technical doctors at the lab thought that one of Connor's vertebral arteries was partially occluded. Both neurosurgeons, and the chief vascular surgeon all concurred that a) they thought it was the artery wrapping around the edge of the vertebrae, and b) that the least worst thing they could do was to go ahead with the surgery. We found out about this when the surgeon told us, after the surgery, that all we needed to do now was "hope he woke up". Since he was coherent, alert, and responsive before the surgery this morning (while his arteries were still in the condition they were in during the CT Scan), and since the fate of our son is in the hands of the Great Physician, we are waiting patiently until we can see him.
God is good - the surgery was as successful as it possibly could be. One step is behind us. We'll keep you posted of the next thing. We love you all!

Praising God that Connor has made it through the surgery and that it was successful. We'll be praying for Connor tonight at Bible study that 1) he'll wake up soon, 2) that he'll be alert and aware, 3) that the surgery was a clear demonstration of Ephesians 3: 20-21.
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen."
Praise God for all that he is doing right now!!!! I want to say, Eric, that although you are expressing worry and fear, I believe you are holing quite well. I know that I would be a complete wreck and to read your thoughts is quite an encouragement to me as I follow your family through this process. London and I have both been praying continously for Connor's recovery, your entire family's well being of spirit and mind and all the little details. It is amazing how often the Lord brings Connor to our minds throughout the day. Just this Sunday as our church celebrated its 25th anniversary, we were having a look back at the music history or our church. Even in that situation, almost every song we sang either brought encouragement of God's faithfullness for his own or hope that God answers all prayers. We are looking forward to what God is going to do next!
London & Megan Osborne
We are right there with you. We will continue to pray for Connor to wake up and that the surgery was a complete success.
Lord, I ask in your son's name, Jesus to cast out all doubts from Eric, Cherie, and Joelle's mind, give them rest tonight as well as Connor. Praying for strengh enough to get through each day you give them. May you be glorified throughout this trial.
Doesn't stop here my friends.....
Ginny
Eric, Cherie, Conner, and Joelle,
I stand amazed at how many people are praying for you, but what is even more amazing is the promise of the scriptures. In Romans 8 we are told
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what(or how) we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
Again in vs.33,
Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is He that condemns? Christ Jesus who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Wow! Praise God for the prayers of His saints, but to have the Holy Spirit and Christ Jesus Himself at the right hand of God the Father praying in accordance with His will.....PRICELESS!
PTL for a successful surgery. We will proceed with prayer for a quick and complete recovery, and a whole and stronger Conner.
Eric, The Lord is amazing my brother and He is using you, Cherie, Joelle and Conner to impact my faith in a very positive way. I stand in awe of your steadfast, absolute trust in God's sovereign will. You seem to understand in a deep and profound way that no matter the outcome; He will indeed cause all things to work out for the good. I’m at this moment on a business trip, sitting in the back of a room where I am hosting a class. Instead of paying attention, I am captured by Conner’s blog. People must be wondering why I’m wiping tears from my eyes from time to time. We love you all and are continuing to pray for you. John, for the Bynum's.
