Day 2 - June 17 - Respirator, etc.
I just got off the phone with Brad who had new info... The latest update looks like they may need to put Connor on a respirator. Apparently since he can't use his chest muscles it requires him to breathe abnormally which becomes exhausting over time.
Please pray that the respirator won't be necessary as this will mean he will lose his ability to sing and have communication with his family.
The good news is...
• The camp where Connor was staying has made arrangements for Eric, Cherié & Joelle to get a hotel room right near the hospital where they can get a little rest.
• Cherié's brother arrived this afternoon and her parents are due in this evening.
• Joni Eareckson Tada's group has a ministry that focuses on people with spinal cord issues and other disabilities... word is a representative from that group is scheduled to meet with Eric and Cherié on Wednesday.
• When my father was in a coma in 1991 the doctors told us that if his condition didn't improve before the next day they would have to give him a tracheotomy for his respirator. There was much prayer that night and in the morning his condition had improved to the point where the trach was not needed. So please pray tonight for Connor!

We are all praying for Conner here in Cambodia. May the Lord grant grace and mercy.
With much love,
Nathan
My schedule for Tuesday includes a men's prayer group in the morning and a college guy's cell group in the evening. I shared about Connor at both and also sent out an all-church email. Thus God's people in Sawyer are praying for him as well.

Connor and family,
I do not know you personally but am friends with the Singley family and attend Morgan Hill Bible. My heart is sad for your injuries but rejoices in the passion that you have for our Lord and His will in your life. I am so glad that you know Him and that you have so many around you know that are also able to share that with you.
I am praying constantly for you, your family and the kids that you traveled with. Our ladies Bible study also made a feverent pray for your healing, but mainly for everyone to be guided by HIS hands and to be ready for HIS will.
Bless you Connor, your love for Him is truly remarkable and amazing

Thanks to Kent for these updates so that we know how to pray. Bob and I have read them with tears. Psalm 77 was in my reading this morning:
My soul refused to be comforted. When I remember God, then I am disturbed. When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Thou hast held my eyelids open; I am so troubled I cannot speak...Has God forgotten to be gracious? Or has He in anger withdrown compassion? Then I said, "It is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High has changed." I shall remember the deeds of the LORD...I will meditate on all Thy work...Thy way, O God, is holy...
You move us so by your faith Conner.
Connor, Eric, Cherie and Joelle,
The Sheppard family and many, many of God's people around the world are holding you up in prayer and entrusting your care into God's hands. We are inspired by your love, faith and determination and encourage you to press on! We love you Connor.

Connor, I've have just learned of your accident. Please know that we are praying in Va. It's my prayer that you would continue to glorify your Lord, leaning heavy upon Him. He will not put on you more than you can handle, which tells me you must be a remarkable person! Honor Him. He is always faithful!
"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son,...

Connor, you have been lifted up to the Lord in prayer. I see so much love, so much wisdom, and so much strength around you. The Lord has His hands on you, I know. You've called attention to my heart through this journey and I send to you...Psalm 62..."For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken."
